Some of the names have remained a constant in the top ten for several years. With many individuals welcoming pets as an addition to their family during uncertain times, the pandemic has helped to place some other names into the ratings. "Captain Tom Moore has secured a sentimental place in the nation’s heart with the names Captain and Tom rising in popularity," the statement adds. "There were over 1000 per cent more puppies named Captain and over 350 per cent more named Tom registered in 2021 compared to pre-pandemic."

The name ‘Boris’ which had been a popular name over the past 2-3 years has slipped out of the top ten. “After the 2019 December election the popularity of the name Boris for dogs soared, with 313 puppies named Boris in 2020 - according to Agria Pet Insurance, providers of Kennel Club Pet Insurance.”

There has also been an increase in space-themed names making a comeback, with the name 'Rover' increasing by 60% in a year. This has been blamed on inspiration from projects by NASA.
